BEHIND THE SCENES

In this segment, we give you a peek behind the scenes at Paper World by interviewing some of our staff on the ins-and-outs of the old paper biz. This issue we’ll hear from Jeff.

Name: Jeff

Role at Paper World: Newspaper restoration and preparation

Year started at Paper World: 2005

Favourite Newspaper: I quite like The Star for no other reason than it is green in colour and no other papers (bar the Age’s Green Guide) are green! It’s a rarity among our papers.

It was a great little afternoon pictorial published by Melbourne’s Argus between 1933 and 1936.

Reporting of the lead up to the start of WWII is also fascinating. One headline in 1939 read, “Peace On The Horizon – Chamberlain visits Germany” Little did they know. Food rationing in the UK after the war was also eye-opening.

Favourite Magazine: I’d have to say National Geographic because they do excellent historical trails of civilizations like the Vikings. But they also show up the attitudes and beliefs of the times they were printed in. I think magazines by their nature (e.g. lots of photos) really show up the times more than the papers do.

Favourite Presentation Product: A personalized inscription adds a nice touch and is reasonably priced.

Most underrated product: Our mounted and framed car ads are a nice piece to hang on a wall but it’s a shame because most customers focus on the papers (These were withdrawn from sale in April – ed.).

Most interesting query/ unusual order from a customer: I think we got an order from Bec Cartwright to Lleyton Hewitt once. The star factor is always interesting.

A WORD FROM OUR CUSTOMERS

Customers often give feedback about our service via telephone, email and even the occasional letter. Here is a recent selection we’re particularly proud of:

Hello and thank you - the order arrived at my parents' house this morning and I just happened to be on the phone to them at the time it was delivered.

They were surprised and delighted with the present. Thank you very much for your help when I was ordering it last week, and for your prompt and efficient service.

Regards,
Penny

Dear PaperWorld,
I received my paper this morning and just want to tell you how thrilled I am with it. The presentation is beautiful and I can’t wait to see my mothers face when she opens it for her 70th birthday in October.

Regards,

Kerrie
