An Australian institution, the Australian Women’s Weekly covered a broad range of issues mainly focused towards women.
A strong pictorial format and detailed articles on fashion and beauty, travel, homecare and Australian culture were mixed with a dash of home-grown fiction, moderate sensationalism and celebrity.
Its earlier oversized format provided plenty of room for bold colour advertising.
Women’s Weekly has always moved with the times and was a champion of women’s causes, and this was reflected by a change from articles for housewives to articles for a wider female audience including more general human-interest pieces.
